Ideas and Actions that grow your business
Social Media Marketing is about putting your business on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and others in a way that is so compelling that it influences the people who are members of those social networks to carry your brand's story on their own shoulders.
It's about creating a community around your business that is driven by those community members.
Facebook marketing often involves setting up a group for your business (that's the first tactical move). But before any tactics are put in to place
an organizational buy-in must occur. Even though you won't be controlling the group in the traditional marketing sense, your business needs to be represented to
focus the group on your organizational goal. This can be difficult but often, if you have a well liked company, a Facebook group
gives a lot of customer feedback that is a lot less expensive than market research. It gives a promotional outlet but, most importantly,
it gives the public an opportunity
to develope a personal bond with your brand.
Above is the Facebook group for The Guesthouse Restaurant in Lethbridge, Alberta. Al Scherer (see small photo top right) runs the best buffet in all of Alberta. The restaurant is located on HWY 3 on the East side of Lethbridge. In a city with a population of 88,000, a 374 person Facebook group of loyal customers is an excellent marketing asset for a business.
As a part of the Bill Borger Mt. Everest Summit / Calgary handiBus fundraising strategy we set up a Twitter profile so Bill could stay in touch with those interested. As you can see by the image below 2,862 people were following Bill's story.
The Twitter profile, YouTube page (see below), and Search Engine Optimization were a part of the overall Calgary Public Relations strategy to increase Calgarians' (and even all of Alberta's ) awareness of the Calgary HandiBus.
Youtube is the most popular video sharing site on the Internet. The concept is very simple - you post videos and people watch them. The execution, on the other hand, is not as simple. Having content people want to watch in one thing but their ability to find it among millions of other videos is just as important. Click Bill Borger Youtube to see Bill's video page.
